Those who suffer together stick together. …Through the struggle of exploring the mountains, we make ourselves vulnerable, not only to the elements but to one another. When you are exhausted, cold, dehydrated and in the dark without headlamp in a thick forest, your heart is open. The bonds that are made in those moments are almost unbreakable. …And that's the part I find addictive. For me, skiing and mountaineering are a way to meet my human need of belonging.
