One of my favorite things in the world is the closeness I feel to my team when I'm climbing a mountain. It's paradoxical that when I come home, I sometimes feel a huge sense of isolation. Sometimes, entire days pass by where I don't see or talk to anyone in real life. Social media can intensify these feelings. The world is at my fingertips, but real human interaction is so far away. Modern society and infrastructure (especially in the American west) further contribute to my growing sense of isolation. I know one post isn't going to change the world, but maybe it's a start. I urge you to pick up the phone and call a friend or family member (don't text- must call or FaceTime) and make time to meet them to catch up. Digital only goes so far! Be a good friend in real life. Big hugs to everyone else who feels lonely in the world.I can't wait until I'm on the mountain again, sharing a rope with a team of great humans! Until then, enjoy this photo from my recent trip to Mt. Rainier by @scottrinck
