I’m drifting away from Facebook. That might sound silly to some who have joined in the past year or two, but it is important to remember that I was in college when Facebook was created exclusively for college users (2005). I have been on the site from the beginning and experienced it’s evolution. My peers and I grew up with AOL chatrooms, Myspace, Facebook and the like. We are social media experts by nature.
Back to my falling out with Facebook -It’s just getting to be too much. It’s more than the constantly ticking newsfeed – it’s the general spirit of the place. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very proud of my friends and everything they are doing. They are doing everything you could ever dream of, and more! But for the past year or so, I just don’t feel like I can be "me" on Facebook. I feel this pressure to be a perfectly polished, photoshopped, shinier version of me.
It’s become more about business than friendship. It’s a victim of its own success. Even though I haven’t been very active on Facebook lately (I created an athlete page which I’ve neglected, I apologize to any fans out there…), I have been busy on Twitter, Instagram (username c_wild) and Pinterest, so if you want to keep up with my latest, follow me on here. For the record, I’m keeping my Facebook account, but I’m just using it selectively.
Thanks for listening to my rant. Would love to hear your thoughts on the topic!
